James Maitera Mylle
James Maitera Mylle is a tattoo artist at Mana’o Tattoo, whose practice is grounded in drawing, composition, and a disciplined control of contrast.
Before tattooing, his visual language developed through drawing and painting, shaping a precise and structured approach to form.
Introduced to the Marquesan patutiki tradition through familial transmission, his work reflects a strong respect for inherited structures and symbolic organization, approached without excess or reinterpretation.
His compositions are defined by a controlled dialogue between fine lines and dense black areas, where contrast is used not as an effect, but as a tool to build balance, depth, and legibility, while adapting naturally to the body’s movement and proportions
The influence of Taravao, where he grew up, is present in his work through a sense of rhythm, spacing, and organic construction, shaped by landscape rather than ornament.
Each project is approached with restraint and precision, ensuring coherence between intention, composition, and execution, resulting in tattoos designed to remain legible, balanced, and faithful to their structure over time.
